Imagine, some list member is on vacation and sets up an
automatic response to tell the sender that he's out of office a
few days. For list messages, the sender is - the list, of
course. So the auto-answer would go back to the list, again
spread to all list members, would be auto-answered ... - you've
got the idea.

P.S.: Mail.app has an "Reply-all" button.
