A KWIC (key-word in context) index, generated from a file of such
one-liners, used to be a standard element of e-documentation on
UNIX systems, but then the -k parameter was added to man, and
it fell out of use, though I still think they're good for
browsing and familiarization (like browsing through a dictionary;
does anyone really just jump straight to a single entry and leave
it at that?). Maybe if they get the man pages updated, this will
take care of some of it. Utilities exist for making the KWIC
indices.
