Yes, you'll get that with any file being previewed by the Finder.
Not really. I can safely delete (i.e. move to trash, empty trash)
almost any previewed file except Quicktime files. I'm pretty sure it's
worked for PDF and TXT. For QT movies, I have to relaunch Finder before
the trash can be emptied. Is this fixed in 10.1?

Actually, it seems to be the Finder that has the problem. You can sneak
in and rm the file via the shell after the Finder tells you that the
file is in use, and then open the trash in the Finder and it's gone.
