From what I can gather from the apple site, ASS is basically, AppleScript but with Widgets. You can design forms and dialogs then write simple AppleScript behind the scenes to handle the flow of the application. I am not really sure how powerful this is and I would not recommend writing anything bigger than the simplest programs in it but it does look like it will be a great way for users to automate tasks more easily and make good looking 'applications'.

Maybe think of it as Visual Basic for applications but more aimed at the user, not the programmer.
