What about using QuickTime? It will optimized much better for OS X,

True.

and fairly easy to use.

What have you been smoking?

Like Tom, I'm not greatly impressed with NSImage, and for that reason (and others) wanted to use Quicktime in my app. However, the API is so absurd and convoluted (particularly to someone like me who has never used it before), and the docs equally so, that using it and keeping my sanity are mutually exclusive! So I chose to forgo it for now (perhaps in the future when either I have a lot, lot, lot more time on my hands to learn it or Apple comes out with a nice OO API for it I will give it another chance).

I unfortunately had to delve into it a bit anyway; every time was a massive headache :-\.
