Environment of NSTask

Hi! Could someone explain, what the environment thing in an NSTask exactly is?
I'm working on a GUI Wrapper for mpg123 a command line mp3 player. The NSTask starts (I didn't set the environment as I don't know what it is or if it is necessary), the NSTask says some text but then "unexpectedly quits" (a crash log is being saved). Did someone experience similiar problems?

Cheers, Thilo
