Readers of this mailing list may remember that I have been working with Dr.
Michael Mahoney to revise our NeXTSTEP book for OSX & Cocoa. I am pleased to
announce that the book "Building Cocoa Applications: A Step-by-Step Guide"
has shipped to the printer! (That's the book printer, not the laser printer
on my desktop.)
This book is a complete rewrite of our original NeXTSTEP book, revised and
brought up-to-date for OSX. We have all of the original application
programs --- Calculator, Evaluator, MathPaper and GraphPaper. We show how to
do things with both Attributed Strings and with RTF. We show the unix shell
and how to do things in Project Builder. Overall, we've tried to create a
balanced presentation for people who know the basics of programming but are
new to OOP or new to Mac/Cocoa.
A few things are notably missing from this book, such as a discussion of
NSFormatter, Apple Help, and a few other technologies. But overall, we
present enough information to let people develop serious applications.
The book should be back from the printer in just a few weeks. Of course, you
can pre-order it now from either the O'Reilly website or from any other
online bookseller of your choice.
Hopefully, somebody will post a review.
