I should have been more clear. I have experienced this phenomenon with resource (fork) based hacks and classic Mac OS products. I haven't yet seen an instance of this with nibs, but I think the same experience will ultimately apply here too.

I still don't think that it is a good idea to try to make a nib file "private", though.

I wasn't sitting on one side of the fence or the other on that one. FWIW I am not currently trying to hide the nibs (which as has been pointed out, doesn't really hide them anyway :).
