I'm a member of the student community, one that was even fortunate to attend
WWDC this year with a student scholarship. I can't say for sure but I think
University of Michigan has a fairly robust connection with Apple .. if it's
part of their curriculum I'm can't say -- but the numbers of UoM-ers in the
Apple community -- student in particular, prob 90 or so of the 300 there --
is pretty significant so I would assume so.
Per my own experiences, I'm just now about to graduate Drexel University in
Philadelphia. DU was one of the premier Apple-orented colleges in the day.
In 1984 Drexel started a policy where every student had to own a Mac. It's
funny cause before the Mac's intro it was referred to as the DU Apple
Computer since the Mac was under tight lip. Alas though, Macs have become
rare around the Univ. We still use a good many in the Arts dept but PCs are
even cropping up there too to use 3D Studio Max.
I could go on how it's been a stumbling with the move to Windows but I'll
quickly tell this tail:
While I did change my major from Comp Sci to Digital Media a few years back
I still love to program. With a slot open a term or so back I decided to
take Data Structures. When I went to the class I was told my projects and hw
had to compile under MS's VC++ .. I was very upset as I had asked in advance
of signing up and was told it just had to be ANSI compliant. (And from what
I hear VC++ code is anything but ANSI). I eventually switched to a more open
professor who shared these beliefs and I was able to do all my how via cc
and/or Project Builder.
