In the early days of the Mac, there was the Macintosh University
Consortium - a collection of colleges that had adopted the Mac. Does this
still exist?
Here in Australia there's the Apple University Consortium. They provide
seeding to tempt non-Mac developers over - they get a full copy of
CodeWarrior, student ADC membership and a recent-model iMac - as well as
development grants for existing Mac software dev (up to $10k AU), among
other things. Each year they send a student or two to the WWDC.
But, their entire funding for the above three things adds up to about
$120k AU ($63k US). That's for a population of 20 million - there's about
3500 students in the CS department here at my uni alone. Your odds aren't
good.
FWIW, here where I am the only Mac's I've seen in the whole uni are
scattered around the electronic engineering, applied physics and applied
maths areas. I'm afraid if I mention the word 'Mac' anywhere near the CS
building I'll be tarred and feathered... :(
