Renaming the disk (or some folder name in the documents's path) while a document is open should let all save operations fail?

what you renamed it *whilst having open files there* for?!? That's a highly suspicious operation anyway! what if you did not rename it, but just delete it? Or move it to a FW disk, and detach it of the machine?!?

Such operations are not to be done, period. If you wanna to rename folders or even disks, do so whilst there are no open files on them, *OR* make sure you know exactly what is happening.

Great user experience!

Definitely. Much better than some mysterious and randomly crashing magic.
