It's too bad AlSoft's defrag utility won't run under X. Al knows more about HFS and HFS+ than any human alive, guaranteed. When I used to work at Apple, he would come and talk shop about whatever his latest tool was and we'd drill him with very difficult questions and he'd always have the answer. Plus he's just a great guy--a true credit to the Mac community. Long story short--Al's disk tools rule and can be implicitly trusted, especially Disk Warrior, which has saved my @#$% on a couple of occasions where no other utility could get the job done.

Anyway, it looks like his defragmentation tool will work, but you'll have to run it from within OS 9. In my case, that would be a bummer because I don't have 9 installed, but you may, so I figured it was worth mentioning.
