I would agree with the poster who said that people skills are
important. It's been my experience that programmers are pretty easy to
get, but people who can understand the programming and the business
side and can communicate meaningfully to both parties are less
plentiful. Something else to keep in mind when looking for work-- what
do you do better than any other developer you know? I don't mean how
you write code, I mean what are your other interests and skills? You
might not believe what could happen if you develop the traits that are
unique to you. Know something besides how to program, whether it's
actuarial sicence or art history. I lucked into a job which happens to
use Cocoa because I have a combination of non-computer skills and
interests very difficult to find.
