Fine, I don't need to make it a dockling. So on to my original questions:

1) Can a dock menu support images (icons) supplied by me?

2) Can a dock menu support submenus?

Comment: Since people seem determined to use Docklings, maybe they should get some support. I personally see a lot of opportunities in them.

Docklings are not supported and it is not recommended that you use them. In fact, I am pretty sure that they would have gone away in 10.1 was it not for the fact that people were determined to use them. I wouldn't do any new development as a dockling if I were you.
