As the originator of this thread, I tend to agree. I don't think anything
particularly new has been said for a while.
The majority of Mac developers know that preserving customer resource data
is important, while most of the 'step folk don't think it is important
enough to worry about.
However, the quantity and vehemence of the postings does tend to indicate
that this is a problem of concern to many developers. Anyone at a policy
level at Apple who has seen this thread would be wise to give careful
consideration to all the points made.
I also infer that my original question (see the subject line) has been
substantively answered, and the answer is "NO".
OK by me -- I will solve the problem for _my_ product, and let Apple's
silliness on this issue become a competitive advantage for _me_.
I only originally asked the question because I didn't want to spend my time
on a solution that would shortly be rendered superfluous.
