Nope, the UTF-8 encoding of the example character would be e8 97 9d

The encoding seems to be font-specific, i.e. while \u34269 works without further ado, \'e7\'dd only works with the correct Chinese font specified; otherwise it will print the two characters from the Mac Roman encoding character set that correspond 0xe7 and 0xdd.
