Got my first "Developer DVD" today, and stuck it into the DVD-RAM drive on
my G4/450. The DVD drive immediately began nearly constant activity.
Half an hour later, the drive was still chuckling away as (I assume) OSX
built some sort of local index of the DVD. The frequent Finder beach-balls
basically made the system unusable for normal purposes, even though the
actual CPU load wasn't too severe. Clicking on any of the disclosure
triangles in the CD's window immediately choked the Finder to a
beach-balled halt.
After half-an-hour of this behavior, I gave up and force-restarted the
Finder so I could eject the DVD.
Is this just a poorly configured DVD-ROM, or are they all going to be like
this?
