Nope. TANSTAAFL.
Actually, some of products we get for other's money.
Free products and services help Apple sell computers and increase
customer loyalty; we all benefit.
As a matter of fact, "free" products and services rise Macinthos prices
far beyond the prices of comparable boxes of a different origin (be it
windoze, linux, or whatever), decreasing thus the market: we all lose.
Don't take me wrong -- I do appreciate that sometimes spreading a price of
this or that to all is a very sound marketing decision (if for no other
reason then since there is a big number of people stupid enough they
believe the salestalk and think there's a free lunch after all!). Just
wanted to point out that the opposite point of view is just as valid as
yours, and Apple needs to find the best compromise.
(Incidentally, in my opinion they still go FAR TOO MUCH the "free" way and
should charge for all the i-applications /which I would not buy/, for
Cocoa SDK /which I would buy, just as I've bought the NeXT SDK/, and more.
Though, I am no marketing expert, and quite easily thus I can be wrong
here.)
