SystemUIHackPack, which is available at ithinksw.com can aid you,
however, the method used does not work in 10.2 as of yet (However, they
may just need to be recompiled under Jag).

Hi all
I'm trying to create an application wich is displayed as an icon at
the
right-hand end of the menu bar, like display or sound icons are, but
whithout using a NSStatusItem. I can guess that those .menu (located in
/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras) are some special kind of
bundles,
but I can't find any documentation.
Does anybody how to create one of those?
Thanks.
Francois.
