This depends on the setup. The best thing to do is to link your
NSMovieView to a ref movie. You can create one of these in QuickTime
Pro by viewing a streaming movie and selecting Save As from the File
menu, or you can also create one using a text editor with the following
text:
rtsptext
rtsp://url.of.streaming.movie/
Then save that text file with a .mov extension.

All,
Oh dear. Has anyone gotten MPEG-4 to display in an NSMovieView
(obviously on Mac OS X upgraded to QT 6)? At this point I can't find
any MPEG-4 samples other than those at Apple. Unfortunately those
example "streams" only display a gif in my NSMovieView that launches
QT Player when clicked. Here, try it yourself:
http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/may/preview/refs/imac.mov
Cute, and good for Apple I suppose, but as an ISV I'm concerned.
Combing through the guts of the binary data sent back at the "gif URL"
I can't find any identifying URL where the actual MPEG-4 stream is
coming from. One suspects that isn't accidental. QT player won't
tell you where it's getting the data from either. It's a military
secret pal, deal with it!
At the moment I'm a bit concerned that this is a preview of the brave
new world of DRM that Hillary Rosen is so suddenly enamored with Apple
for: "publicly available" QuickTime content that plays only in an
Apple sanctioned QuickTime player. Even if this is simply an option
that an Apple author set in LiveStage Pro - what happens to the
Watson's of the world when public media like trailers are exclusively
released in MPEG-4 with that same pernicious option? Pretty fuggly
experience for the user; although one imagines it would still
magically work in Sherlock. ;)
And yeah, yeah I know - just who do I think I am that I think I
should decide how I want to display _Important_ trailers from
_Important Companies_ like _Disney_. Somebody tell me I'm wrong and
set me straight about this, please!
