A lot of people seem to misunderstand how Ambrosia's registration scheme
works. When you get the code, the program will accept it for 30 days.
Once it's accepted, it stays accepted. No getting new numbers, no
phoning home, etc.
It really isn't a problem unless you plan on reformatting your drive
without backing up your preferences folder while at 30,000 feet over Des
Moines.
I actually think this is a nifty system, because it's unlikely to nail
you at odd moments just because you added a new network card to your
computer (like WPA), and yet by the time the number makes it out into
Surfers Serials (how most pirating takes place, rather than cracking the
registration code), it's useless.
Ambrosia's Snapz Pro requires you to download a new serial number every
few
months. I hate it when my number expires 30,000 feet over Des Moines
and I
have work to do. This might be a feasible technique if your expiration
routine gave a customer a couple weeks' notice that the serial number is
about to expire.
