Maintaining open source UNIX source code and builds in a Project Builder project...

I'm working on a Cocoa front end for a UNIX open source application. I want to distribute the UNIX
binary and libraries in the Cocoa application's bundle and I want to control the build
of the UNIX components with PB.

I've seen a less complicated example of this in the "Building Cocoa Applications" book.
Are there more complex examples? Will PB run the configure script and Makefile straight away?
What do I need to do get PB to execute these files? Do I make the open source products go into
their own bundle or direct them to subdirectories of the build directory?

Any advice is much appreciated in advance.
Jose
