Wait a second...
I still can't get Webdings and Wingdings, etc to work in OS X!
It doesn't seem to matter what keyboard layout I'm using, TextEdit won't
display characters as what they are supposed to be. They are still
displayed as characters you would see one a font like Helvetica or
Geneva.
The "symbols" I'm talking about aren't deltas, omegas, or pis. When I
use Photoshop (classic), when I type in Webdings the letter 'a', I get a
check mark, 'b' produces a bicycle, and 'j' produces and airplane, etc.
But when I type in TextEdit using Webdings, it changes the font to
Lucida Grande. And when I type text in another font, select the text,
and try to change it to Webdings, it deselects itself at first, but then
it will select with a second click, but the font won't change. Same
goes for Wingdings, Zapf Dingbats, and Monotype Sorts. It seems to me
Mac OS X has some problem with these fonts for some reason. And like I
said, using the "Symbol" keyboard layout doesn't help. And the fact
that the icon for the "Symbol" keyboard layout is sigma makes me think
they are talking about the delta, omega, and pi types of symbols.
OK, now I've found that the "Dingbats" layout does let you type in Zapf
Dingbats, but not the others.
The only reason I care is because I want to use some of those symbols in
my own application, but can't. So...does anybody know how to make the
other "symbol" fonts work? And how to make them work in Cocoa.
Thanks,
- Chaz
