You can download my free Unicode Font Info from here:
http://pixel.recoil.org/cocoa/unicodefontinfo.html
This will let you discover the unicode codes for the characters you want.
If you choose to cross-reference with the Unicode tables from
unicode.org, you'll see that Adobe's Zapf dingbats is well behaves and
puts the dingbats where they should be. Webdings and Wingdings have
characters in illegal code positions (at least according to the Unicode
3.0). Not just "in the wrong place" but "flat out where no characters
should be at all".
Never the less you can enter the characters if you switch to the Unicode
Hex Input method and hold down the option key and type in the 4 char hex
code for the character. Not ideal but it will work.
Hopefully Microsoft/Bitstream will address the errors in the fonts,
which should help Apple come up with a consistent solution.
