Just one bit of detail to add to the various GNUStep reports:
- The GNUStep version of Foundation is quite complete and portable.
One could argue that it's better than Apple's current implementation,
which had a rough time with the CoreFoundation transitions, though
stuff is being repaired. It is used in commercial systems, and has
been for several years.
- The GNUStep version of AppKit is not so complete. most of the
comments as to incompleteness and incompatibilty apply primarily to the
AppKit parts.
Adding to this, the following information may also be helpful: most
comments about the availability of GNUStep on Windows somehow fail to
mention that AppKit is not supported on Windows at all.
Supposedly (
http://www.gnustep.org/developers/tasks.html), AppKit
support on Windows is to be added in the next version. I am not so sure
about this, though, because this has been planned for inclusion in "the
next version" for almost two years now, being continually pushed back
from release to release. I'm not even sure if anybody is actively
working on this at the moment.
