I guess you can just launch the appropriate pane from
/System/Library/PreferencesPanes/ instead of launching the System
Preferences app itself.

Thanks! I never realised that prefPanes could be opened like documents, for some reason I thought they were bundles. I knew there would be a ridiculously simple answer.
