I'm adding a toolbar to my application, and it turns out that there
don't appear to be standard toolbar icons (as I had previously
supposed). I'm certainly no artist, and I'm wondering if there is any
sort of repository for good-looking toolbar icons. Or maybe there are
standard icons somewhere, and I'm just missing them. At any rate, any
information that could be provided on this topic would be great.

There are standard icons provided for a few things like bringing up the font or color panel, print, and "customize toolbar". However, things like save, cut & paste, etc. are missing AFAIK.

People often mention http://www.IconFactory.com/, but I'm underwhelmed with most of the stuff they have up, and I'm not sure what the usage terms are.

http://www.resexcellence.com/ is also often mentioned; I haven't surfed much there, and again, I'm not sure what the usage terms are.

Unfortunately, one consequence of Apple setting the bar high for "UI aesthetics" is that a lot of small developers without access to professional artists cannot produce software that looks as good as the OS does. It would be nice if Apple was planning to create a bunch of art that would be freely usable by Mac developers -- things like standard toolbar icons. However, I suspect Apple's art department is already overworked... :->
