I would like to put an icon at the upper right corner, near the clock and
sound icons. What is the way to do it ?

Well, Menu Extras (bundles that you can drag to the status bar and re-order, and run inside SystemUIServer) are private, but you can use NSStatusBar and NSStatusItem from a standard application.
