What are the reasons why anybody would choose to right Carbon apps over Cocoa. Is it because Carbon works under OS 9 with CarbonLib? Or is it simply a matter of language choice ie. Objective-C vs C++?

Existing applications port easily, language issues (C++ vs. ObjC), different toolsets (Codewarrior vs. PB), compatibility with OS 9, personal programming preference (whichever API is easier to grok), political reasons, resume reasons, etc.

Why for instance are so many of Apples iApps written with the Carbon APIs?

iCal - Cocoa
iChat - Cocoa
iPhoto - Cocoa
iDVD - Cocoa

iMovie - Carbon
iTunes - Carbon

iSync - ??
