I have a question: As much as this topic comes up, why hasn't some
commercial software vendor jumped in to fill the hole left when EOF was
re-positioned without Objective C? Are these vendors simply leaving money
on the table?
Commercial vendors aren't stepping up with EOF replacements for
several reasons. The biggest reason is the investment required to
actually develop the EOF replacement. A framework equivalent to EOF
will cost quite a bit to develop.
Apple already *has* this framework. It just needs to be polished and
shipped. That's what's so darned frustrating for a lot of people;
Apple is just *sitting* on technology that will enhance their
business by enhancing our businesses.
I know lots of people in the Apple rank-and-file really want to see
Cocoa EOF live again. The problem is that Apple's management just
doesn't see why. Anyone with contacts in Apple management should be
working them to get this out of the vault and into customer hands
ASAP.
