Nonsense. It is just contradiction: if a majority of alerts has Cancel
default as you advocate, nobody can learn to "blindly hit return", since

No, it should not. In such a disastrous case there should be no default
button at all perhaps, but definitely *NOT* Cancel.
After all, if there truly is such a jackass who hits Enter without
thinking, with your approach he'll be positively baffled: "what the heck
happened? Some alert blinked and disappeared, I haven't had a chance to
read what there was written: does it mean the disk is being formatted now
or what?"
