Nearly correct. You need to change the target's application settings to
change the extension. So select the target as above (or choose "Edit Active
Target" from the Project menu, or type option-command-e) and click on the
Application Settings tab.
Scroll down to Document Types.
Select what should be the only item in the table by clicking on it.
Below the table, change Extensions from "????" to whatever extension you
want. You don't need the quote marks.
Do the same for OS types.
Click on the Change button.
Rebuild the project.
This is also where you change the icon for your document.
I have found this little editor (as well as the palettes in IB) to be a bit
fritzy about actually taking my choices. I always get rid of the target
settings view, then reopen it to verify that my choice is there.
