Applescript Studio Examples - Currency Conv. - SOAP?

- In the directory /Developer/Examples/Applescript Studio there are
several great examples (was using daily dilbert this a.m.!)
However - I cannot see any difference between Currency Converter and
Currency Converter SOAP - The second does not seem to use SOAP at all.
Or am I just being stupid.

Question 2 - [OT] - I see in the HUI guidelines that the suggested
keyboard-shortcut for application "preferences" is Command-,
Why do all Apple apps (at least all on my system) not use this
shortcut - in fact they all seem to use different ones. Even iCal -
which was just released.
