You could use square bevel buttons (which are about the dullest controls in Aqua) and set your window background colour to [NSColor darkGrayColor]. If even bevel buttons are too jazzy for graphics professionals, try what I suggested in an earlier reply, and make your (bevel) buttons borderless. That way, all you see is the button title or icon.
