Nope, no such messages. Just launch IB and get nothing except the
standard IB widgets palette. And my prefs are set to use the pre-10.2
format.

Are you using the keyed archiving nib format at all?
Is IB giving you any messages that say something like "an
inconsistency was found in the nib, please save the nib" when you open
the nib?
