I had this problem too, when I released my first application. All I did was
submit it to 3 sites (one including VersionTracker, the other being
Apple.com, and the third I forget), and it actually "spidered" all over the
Net. You see, many software listing websites actually look for new releases
on the bigger websites such as VT and Apple. Within a week or two, I had
referrals from as many as 20 websites. After about 4 months, MacAddict
discovered the product and wanted to put it on one of their monthly CD-ROMs.

So you don't have to do all the work yourself. Choose a few websites and
submit your product to them (make the submissions GOOD, meaning catchy
descriptions, good keyword selection, etc), and the spread to the Internet
will take care of itself.

You can also, of course, purchase advertising on other websites, but that
can be costly, and banner ads, IMO, make the software they are advertising
look bad, simply because banners are SO freaking annoying. ;-)

Hope that helps.
