The $800 fee for the DVDs was not required if you had already paid

Actually, there's so much going on at WWDC that it's almost
impossible to attend everything worthwhile. The DVD & web sessions
are useful for those sessions you can't attend.
It's made me wish there was video available of MacHack sessions.
My argument to the ADC people was - "You should pay ME $800 to sit
thru 100 hours of speakers doing hi-level overviews explaining about
how to make code on your OS work". They didn't agree... Where the
heck did that $800 number come from anyway? Oh well..
It probably came from the cost of producing the DVDs and running a
week-long conference at a major convention center for several
thousand developers.
And WWDC isn't just about high-level overviews. Many sessions go
into quite a bit of useful detail, especially those sessions dealing
with new technologies.
Conferences are also about networking. At both WWDC and MacHack
you'll get the chance meet and get to know many other Macintosh
developers, including people on the inside at Apple. You'll make
both contacts and friends.
