While I don't want to leave the impression that Apple's documentation is adequate over all, it took less than 3 minutes for me to find both the tech-note and the mamasam archive link. The tech note was at the top of the result list for a Google search on "launch services > default"

Well yeah, same here. It's not a matter of finding something if you're looking for it, it's amatter of knowing what to look for. I had no idea Launch Services even existed.


At the conceptual level it's referred to throughout the documentation. But you do need to tweak to the fact that it handles those things.

Thus, the bug filed for more clarification. (although, reading through some Carbon doc, I'm surprised that it doesn't come up when you search "Default browser". It has that exact phrase and mentions Internet config.
