While this does provide the function needed, it does not behave in the same
way that disclosure triangles do in Carbon. Take the Finder's Get Info for
example, when you click on a triangle, there are three states: arrow
pointing right, arrow pointing diagonal right-down, arrow pointing down.
When you click there is a brief animation that shows the diagonal arrow for
a split second before it points to the right or down.
This is something I've always kept in mind when I've thought of creating my
own disclosure triangle for Cocoa. However, I've noticed that most Cocoa
disclosure triangles don't follow the old Carbon/Classic model of animating
the triangle. I've noticed that Project Builder doesn't animate the
triangle and neither do NSOutlineViews. But, the outline views in the
Finder's list view do animate the triangles.
I don't know if either of the examples you mentioned animate the triangle,
but that is something I'd look for if I wanted to implement it.
