rtfd help

I'm trying to add rtfd support to my app. I thought it would be simple: go into the plist editor in PB, and add a Name (RTFD), an extensio (rtfd), click file package, and assign it to MyDocument, which already handles rtf, and txt. Now in my app, files are not opened directly, but they are opened through another document using the openDocumentWithContentsOfFile:display: That works fine for txt and rtf; it never returns when it is an rtfd...

ideas, suggestions...?
