Sure, it would take less than a day's work for anyone here to add code to NSImageView to accept images from the pasteboard. Or to add some kind of visual indication of first responder status. Or to copy its contents to the pasteboard (umm, should that be as PDF, TIFF, JPEG or PNG data?) Or to rotate the image. Or to color-correct the image.

I'd say you're underestimating how many different things "anyone would ever want" NSImageView to do.
