If you have hardware that can run NeXTStep 4.2, that's probably the
easiest. Port to OpenStep using a 4.2 box. Then going to Cocoa from
there is mostly a recompile (and possibly changes to take advantage of
new stuff if you want).
The underlying conversion tool (tops) is still shipped with OS X (and
is a cool little code transformation tool). But the NextStep ->
OpenStep conversion scripts and all the intermediate header files are
not shipped. It might be possible to simply grab all that stuff from
an OpenStep box and throw it onto OS X, but you'll almost certainly
have to do some creative changes to the instructions for porting,
especially when it comes to the dev env aspects. Depending on how
familiar you are with how OpenStep and OS X work (esp. the dev envs)
and how they differ this may be simple for you or not.

I'll SECOND That !
From what I've guessed, Apple Frameworks was born of the OpenStep
Foundation Kit.
And ...
There was a bunch of porting that needed to be done to get from the
NeXTStep
AppKit to the OpenStep Foundation(s). I bailed at this point and just
stuck with NS,
so I'm a bit blurry here. My client got mad at NeXT and immediately
started their
migration over to the dark side.
I would be surprised to learn that Apple is supporting any of those
old migration
tools & tips to get from NS to OS.
But ...
It sure would be cool if they did and much cooler still if they would
help us port even older NeXT
Apps DIRECTLY to OSX ?
Cuz' I've got a few.

Can anyone comment on the level of effort required to port a legacy
application from NextStep to Cocoa? Has anyone does this? I would
very much like to hear about your experiences.
Thanks,
