The Big S did mention that it was something in the neighborhood of five times smaller than "another open source renderer". I assumed he was referring to Gecko, but I'm not too familiar with which ones there are out there besides.

Wow. This is the guts of Konqueror, a very capable web browser, laid out into a framework. Any idea why Apple chose this rendering engine (KHTML) instead of the Mozilla engine (Gecko)? Size/Speed issues?
