I've personally never seen this happen, except in the case of mucking around
in preferences, or (as you said), changing the app name, which I have never
seen, but can think of several places where it could happen.

Which is why you never, ever, save an _absolute_ path. Generate it at
runtime (I believe this would even work with bundles, but I'm not sure).
That is in the AHIG. I think. I know that I've read it in Apple docs
somewhere...
