But seriously, there's more to deploying OS widgets than simply coding
then up. Their implementations/apis need to be evaluated for
generality and suitability, they need to be tested, and documented,
etc. Give Apple time. I'm sure this stuff (the stuff that passes
muster anyhow) will make it out to us eventually.
Yes. I normally advocate patience and hope that a good design later is
better than functionality sooner. However, I have seen some
functionality become part of my UI experience on X and have waited many
years and still not seen Cocoa pick up some of this new technology.
Consider Finder's view toolbar button (switch between icon, list, and
browser views), which is now common in iApps. Consider ProjectBuilder's
animated tab views. Both of these objects have been around for about 4
years (note that Finder is not Cocoa).
Should we be patient? Yes. Will Cocoa always lag behind Apple's
application development? Yes. Do I think Apple could do better? Yes.
