David,
I have purchased three books and completed a fairly large program in
Objective C using Cocoa for a 1394 interface. The user interface tools
are fairly easy to learn.
The books I have are:
1. Learning Cocoa with Objective C (O'Reilly)
2. Building Cocoa Applications (O'Reilly)
3. Cocoa Programming (SAMS)
The SAMS book is really only for experienced C programmers (like me).
The other two are better for beginners to the Cocoa environment. You
really need to learn C programming to effectively use any of these
books. I do not have a good recommendation for this since I learned C
around 1984 on a cute machine known as a Mac Plus. It also helped that
I was a full blown machine language programmer when I learned C.
As for the books, buy the Building Cocoa Applications when you purchase
a C programming book. Later buy the other O'Reilly book if you need
more basic help.
Good luck!!

Actually...
My previous posts were trying to find an employer who would hire me as
a trainee programmer and teach me the ropes. It seems that's too far
fetched an idea. So let's say instead that I just start from scratch
and teach myself (or find an appropriate teacher) programming the Mac.
From what I understand of it all, I'd really like to learn Cocoa, and
WebObjects.
My understanding at the moment, is that Cocoa requires objective-C or
Java. I've seen a few books etc. on objective C and Cocoa, but it
seems they require a good understanding of C or C++ first. Is all that
correct?
I know none of these (C/C++/Java/Objective-C/Cocoa). And as for
WebObjects, I think I have a pretty good understanding of what it can
produce, but I have no idea where to start as far as learning it, or
what I need to know first.
Can anyone direct me to any learning materials that could teach me all
these skills. I realise there's a lot to learn, but I'm willing to put
in the time and effort if I can find the right teaching
materials/people. (The only thing I don't have a lot of to put in is
$$, but that may only be a short term problem).
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Regards,
David Thorp.
