EOF: Dead or Alive?

  • Subject: EOF: Dead or Alive?

Back to the original topic, before it was sidelined by the NDA discussion.

Over a year ago, Apple licensed EOF under a "previews only" license that expired in a year. We were told that Apple would reach a final decision on EOF soon, but there were no announcements.

(Obligatory NDA discussion) EOF is not a state secret- it has been shipping for at least 5 years. EOF is on topic to the list because EOF can be used under Cocoa-- it originated there back in the mists of time. EOF is not a future secret, as it is shipping now.

So, the question is, has Apple given a response to the many requests of developers to be able to use EOF in Cocoa, or shrink-wrapped applications? (The Java version of EOF is fine by me, we just need a license.)

Apple employees have been completely mum all this time waiting for an official decision. IF one was announced at WWDC, it is totally appropriate to let all of us know about it.

IF, on the other hand, Apple made some big announcement of a technology similar in purpose to EOF, then the details of that would be something you should keep under your hat. Just tell us that the future of Object-Relational mapping under Cocoa is not a dead end, but it isn't EOF.

Thanks.

Jay
