Programming style and the relative styles and best practices between
Cocoa and alternatives are definitely on-topic for a technical Cocoa
forum like this one (IMHO). I have always found that discussions about
_why_ something is or isn't a good practice are more valuable than
unexplained assertions. Someone who is used to C++ with Qt or MFC or
whatever (almost everyone) probably finds a discussion about _why_
Cocoa does things radically differently even more interesting than mere
statement of the facts that Cocoa does things differently. I think a
thread about _why_ some developers choose Qt over Cocoa is enlightening
about virtues and vises of both Cocoa and Qt. I think analysis of
Cocoa's style (dynamic) verses the style of other frameworks (static)
is crucial to understanding how Cocoa works. Compare and contrast are
excellent ways of providing technical information.
Finally, a discussion of NDAs that Cocoa developers are required to
sign in order to get information from Apple in order to learn about
recent changes to Cocoa is certainly a valid discussion for a list that
is about disseminating information about Cocoa.
Note: I have only participated in one of the numerous threads to which
I allude above.

This whole thread is OT for this list! Cocoa-Dev is going down the
drain because of the low signal-to-noise ratio. Where's the list-mom?
This is Cocoa-Dev "Discussions regarding native Mac OS X application
development using Cocoa frameworks", not Cocoa-Chat "Rants, raves and
rumors about anything and everything Cocoa".
Having just posted a comment at the end of this thread (thus becoming
part of the problem myself), I have to admit that I agree with joar on
this. Cocoa-dev has recently been swamped with off-topic posts,
ranging from a huge thread about programming style through to the
whole Qt vs. Cocoa thread.
Please can everyone try to keep vaguely on-topic?
Kind regards,
Alastair.
