[OT] Immortal Property List Editor

Has anyone ever seen anything like this ?

I accidentally clicked on a plist file that was on a CD (I was copying a CD
of a friend's senior recital and I think I got an iTunes playlist on the
disk by mistake.) The Property List Editor started - and then hung before showing
a window. Of course it wouldn't let me eject the CD. But force-quit either from
the dock or the apple menu had no effect. Repeated applications of good old
"kill -9" had no effect. (It didn't say "No Such Process" like it would if you tried
to kill a Zombie.) ps listed the state of the process as "U". Not in the docs,
never heard of it. ("U" comes after "T" so maybe "U" means REALLY stopped ?)
Shut down from the menu failed because, naturally, Property List Editor
would not quit. I finally did "sync" then "halt" from an xterm. The halt didn't work - it
just froze the machine. Perhaps ps should have listed the state
as "F" for Frankenstein.
