Some of these settings are handled by the System Configuration
framework. If you have an ADC membership, check out the Quicktime
briefing and SDK Apple put out in May or June of this year. You should
also become very familiar with the system security and authentication
model in the Security framework; on my machine the documentation is at
/Developer/Documentation/Security/authorizationservices/
authorization_ref/index.html.
